In the Russian presidency's official communiqué, Putin reportedly considers the war in Ukraine a direct consequence of Western countries' policies.
The Ukrainian conflict is a direct consequence of Western countries' policy, which for years ignored Russia's security interests, established an anti-Russian fortress in Ukraine and tolerated Russian-speaking rights violations”, he declared, according to the Kremlin.
Putin stressed that any possible solution should be comprehensive and deal with the root causes of conflict, based on actual reality on the ground. He also criticised the West for the military support being offered to Ukraine.
The Western “West countries are following a policy of extending military operations, feeding Kiev's regime various modern weapons”, the Russian president said, according to reports by the TASS agency.
In the rest of the conversation, leaders stopped at mounting tensions in the Middle East, stressing the need for diplomatic solutions and respect for international rights.
The two presidents stressed the importance of Iran's right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, as well as the necessity of Tehran honouring its obligations under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and co-operating with the International Agency for Atomic Energy (IAEA). /Periscope/
