Police in Greece are looking for the killer of a California University professor at Berkeley, who was shot dead on July 4th while visiting Athens to see his children and attend a hearing for family custody.
Przemyslaw Yeziorski, 43, economist and marketing professor at UC Berkeley Business School, was shot several times closely in an Athens residential suburb and died on the scene, according to police, CNN reports.
A masked armed person “approached the victim on foot and opened fire from near” around 4:15 pm, hitting the victim in the neck and chest, according to police spokeswoman Konstantina Dimoglydou. Seven bullet shells from a 9mm calibre firearm were found at the scene, police said.
The shooting occurred near the home of former Jeziorski woman on the outskirts of Agia Parascev, a day after the father of two children participated in a court hearing for custody, police said.
CNN has contacted Yeziorski's ex-wife for comment.
A high police source, speaking on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to discuss the issue publicly, told CNN that “all scenarios are being reviewed, including close family members”, but did not provide more details.
The police source said that the “assassination had signs of a pay murder”, so links to organised crime are also being investigated.
Police said Yeziorski had no criminal precedents in Greece. Eyewitnesses described that they had seen a man dressed in black who approached the victim on foot, one who told local media that he had heard about six shots and had seen the author run away from the scene. /Periscopi/
