Pope Leo discussed the war in Ukraine on Saturday with Mitrovici Anthony, a senior clergyman in the Russian Orthodox Church, in a possible attempt to ease ties between churches strained by Russia's invasion.
Leo met with Anthony, the head of the church's foreign relations department, and five other high profile clergymen this morning, the Vatican said, broadcast Reuters. Perixopi.
“During the conversation, numerous issues arose regarding the state of Orthodox-Catholic dialogue, as well as continuing conflicts in the world, including Ukraine and the Middle East”, the Russian Orthodox Church said in a statement.
Since taking office, Leo has repeatedly called for peace in global conflicts, and this month he told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was visiting, that the Vatican was willing to host Russia-Ukrainian peace talks. /Perixopi
