The Kosovo Police Union (SPK) has called for active involvement of the ombudsman, Naim Qelaj, in monitoring and evaluating the rights of five banned police officials over the case in Lipjan, where a young man lost his life.
Through an official request, the SPK stresses the need for monitoring the basic rights of detainees, the appreciation and proportion of the provision of ban that, according to them, has been unnecessary, and to ensure a fair, impartial, and untigmatic public process toward officials involved.
The SPK reports that, immediately after the event, it has been active in supporting banned colleagues and their families, through visits, field meetings and public reactions, including a statement on public television. RTK.
In the communiqué, the union calls on former superiors and former police officials to be cautious and professional in public statements concerning this case, respecting the law and considering the impact their words may have on public opinion and on the image of the Kosovo Police.
The SPK also stresses that it does not intervene in the investigative process and prejudge justice, but remains committed to protecting each police official's legal and human rights.

Today, the Kosovo Police Union (SPK), in the quality of representation of the interests and rights of police officials, has officially addressed the ombudsman, Mr. Naim Qelaj, with the request for active involvement in monitoring and assessment the rights of five Kosovo Police officials who are currently on hold over the case in Lipjan, where a young man has lost his life.
Through this official request, the SPK stressed the importance of:

Supervising respect for fundamental rights of detainees;

Rating the proportion of the ban measure, where the SPK considers the measure of the ban to be unnecessary and that there have been possibilities for more reasonable measures;

Preventions of public stigmatisation and use of biased language to police officials;

The guarantee of a fair and impartial legal process.
SPK's actions since the event
Once the case occurred, the SPK has been active and present to banned colleagues and their families. The chairman of the Union, along with his associates, has visited the families of five banned police officials, expressing full institutional, moral and judicial support to them.
Likewise, a meeting has been held at the Lipjan Police Station to inform and discuss with colleagues about developments and to provide concrete support.
In defense of the professional integrity of our officials, the union has made the official response on RTK public television regarding the incident, calling on all local institutional and media acts to have an impartial, professional and balanced approach to the event's reflection.
Also, the SPK appeals to former prosecutors and former police officials, who are currently retired or for various reasons are no longer active in the Kosovo Police framework, in their public appearances in written or electronic media, to be careful, accurate and professional in their statements.
We invite that any proposal be made in accordance with the Kosovo Police Law, KP regulations and administrative guidelines, given that their word has weight and influence on public opinion and the image of the Kosovo Police.
The SPK recalls that it does not intervene in the investigative process and that it does not prejudge the course of justice, but it is obliged to demand that any Kosovo Police official have fair, human and legal treatment, in accordance with all local and international standards.
