“In the town of Pfaffeenhen an der Ilm in the Upper Bavarina, a second patient who was infected with the rare Borna virus ( BoDV-1). Earlier, another patient had died. They both stayed in the hospital for weeks. Exactly how they were infected is not yet known. Bravaria health authorities are investigating the cases. This virus is found in a wild mouse (Feldspitsmaus) and can go through their urine, poop, or saliva. Hence, it is recommended to avoid direct contact with living or dead animals. Obtaining masks during old huts or buildings is also recommended”, Tomaj said.
It has shown that some 57 cases have been documented in Germany so far.
“The infections from this virus are very rare, but they usually end up dying because they cause serious inflammation in the brain. In Germany, since 2018, the virus has been proven to be human. The disease is mandatory for reporting since 2020. So far around 57 cases have been documented, mostly in Bavar”, has praised Tomaj, who is trained in Augsburg. /Periscope/
