The month of July has been tragic for Kosovo construction workers. Five workers in this sector have died this month in Kosovo. The last case was yesterday when a worker died after falling from the building where he was working.
The victim was about 40 years old. Police have said two people have been interviewed as suspects in the case and then were detained for 48 hours.
“With the date 30.07.2025, about 12:45, in the city of Prizren, an incident has been reported at the workplace where the victim N. J., a male about 40 years old, from Drenas, while performing work on a roof, has fallen from the height and has suffered serious bodily injuries. The same has been sent with urgency to Prizren Regional Hospital, where, later, according to official information from the emergency, it has been confirmed that it has changed lives as a result of the injuries received. Police have immediately responded to the case and received testimony from persons present at the scene”, Prizren's regional police have said, Reporter reports, the Periscope broadcast.
Police detainees are the supervisor and the construction investor.
On July 21st, three workers died as a result of domestic injuries, two of whom were in the Gjakova region and one in Istog. Meanwhile, tragedies continued. On July 27th, another worker in Ferizaj died after the car crashed.
According to data from the Private Sector Workers' Sector, in 2025 alone, 18 workers have lost their lives in the workplace.
Private Sector Workers Union Chairman Yusuf Azemi has named the situation alarming and extremely disturbing.
Azem the day before has been sought by responsible institutions to act immediately to stop this chain of tragedies in the workplace. The procedure is bound to take action, police and Labour Inspectorate as well. This year started as a horrible year,” he said.
