What happened Friday, when the election of judges to the Federal Constitutional Court was to be annulled because the CDU coalition/ CSU disagreed in the last minute with the candidate proposed by the Social Democratic Party (SPD) Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf, “was not good, but it is not a crisis, nor of democracy nor of government”, Merz said, and attributed the differences to democracy “alive to Germany's”.
In response to a question whether the head of the CDU, Jens Spahn, is responsible for <x0-recognition” by MPs, the Chancellor said MPs are independent, directly elected citizens, while when asked if Spahn is the right person for this position, he directly replied: “>
The Chancellor also noted that the government so far has adopted all bills that it has submitted to parliament without information leaks, in addition to the election of judges, and added that partners would consult in the coming period “without time pressure” to find a solution.
He even downplayed the importance of the issue, stressing that citizens have issues that concern them more than the election of judges, while remembering that co-operation with SPD “is not a marriage of love, but a working coalition” in whose context everyone makes difficult decisions and makes reasonable compromises. /Periscope/
