Local elections, CEC with official announcement of voters from abroad

All Kosovo citizens can rightly vote abroad, except for elections for the Assembly, can also vote in local elections for mayors and municipal municipalities if they apply and register successfully for voting outside Kosovo.

CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi has stressed to RTKlive that the process of registering voters outside Kosovo, The CEC has set the 38-day deadline, which will begin on July 23rd and will end on August 29th 2025.

According to him, the census application could be made through the CEC's electronic platform or via mail, submitting the application to the CEC mailbox in Kosovo.

Elez has stressed that any registration application must be individual.

Unlike the Kosovo Assembly elections in the local elections, voting abroad is only realised through mail, as the Law for General Elections specifys that voting in the diplomatic representation does not apply to this kind of election.

Also, Elez has indicated that in these elections, the CEC will make sure that Kosovo citizens who register successfully to vote from outside Kosovo in the post office vote forward via the ballot package. This cost will cover the CEC. This provision, we consider, will affect the integrity of this process. Meanwhile, the voter will have to send the ballot package to any of the CEC mailboxes that are opened in different states of the world and to Kosovo”, he has said of RTKlive.

According to Elez, the voting period outside Kosovo will only apply to citizens who will manage to register as voters outside Kosovo during the census period.

Under the CEC decision, vote through mail will begin on 17 September and end a day before election day in Kosovo, October 11th 2025. /Periscopi/
