“Beyond constitutional interpretation, the secret vote for the Speaker of the Parliament violates principles of transparency, accountability and fundamental values of democracy. Especially when there is only one candidate, without any form of race or alternative, this process not only loses meaning but it raises serious doubts about political markets, secret agreements and rewards, as well as a lack of courage to take public responsibility”, he said, Periscope.
The mayor, through a post on the social network Facebook, has said that in this context, the secret vote does not guarantee integrity, rather replace transparency with a process perceived as manipulated and suspicious.
“Deputes are not selected to act as individuals separated from the will of citizens. They are public representatives and, as such, have the responsibility to open up the vote when it comes to choosing the Speaker of the Parliament, a figure that would have to represent balance and institutional unity”, he wrote. /Periscope/
