This sum represents nearly double the previous budget, and for the first time, European Union enlargement has a key place in this framework.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyeen stressed the importance of enlargement:
“Enlargement is a key priority. It is not only political goal, but strategic investment in Europe's stability and prosperity. Therefore, we are fully opening the instrument "Global Europe" for candidate countries not only for technical assistance but also for concrete reforms and projects”, said Von der Leenen.
Under the proposal, countries in the membership process will benefit more funds for reforms, development and infrastructure.
If one of them becomes a member state during the period 2028,2034, Frame will be revised and adjusted as needed.
Kosovo, though still without official candidate status, is involved in the EU's financial plan. Brussels has confirmed that Pristina will also benefit from funds through instruments for the ongoing enlargement countries./Periscopi/
