Both were arrested by Kukes Police on Friday, July 4th, in the area known as Hasi's “Bridge”, charged with arms trafficking by Kosovo in Albania.
According to preliminary investigations, Qajaj and Mallaki, residents of Prizren, trafficked weapons across the green border with the aim of selling them on Albanian territory.
During the search of their vehicle, police effectives discovered and seized eight firearms hidden in the trunk of the car, each placed in separate bags, reports Topchannel, broadcast Periscopi.
The weapons were allegedly destined for two other people who managed to leave once police services were noticed. The latter are still being sought by the Kukes Police.
This is not the first case of the crackdown on criminal groups dealing with arms trafficking from Kosovo to Albania. On 30 May, after a five - month investigation, police arrested 10 persons involved in the same criminal activity.
State Police General Director Ilir Proda has named co-operation with the Kosovo Police as a success model in the region, especially in the direction of the crackdown on groups that trafficking firearms. Regarding the last case in Kukes, he expressed gratitude for local police structures as well as for citizens who, according to him, are increasingly showing confidence in the State Police.
