KLA OVL leader Hysni Gucati said he is addressing incumbent Justice Minister Albulen Haxhiu on the issue, but has not accepted answers.
He said that two and a half years ago, the Kosovo government has made changes in terms of financial support for those accused of Kosovo's Specialised Chambers in The Hague, setting the ceiling price for defence.
Gucati, who described the decision as unjust and a major mistake, said that because of the payments, only some lawyers have stepped down, citing Kadri Veselin's defender, and Hashim Thaci's two lawyers.
It [Kosovo government] has received, a ceiling price to pay protection and does not give additional money, as it was four years ago. Four years ago it was the non-restricted price, as long as the guard clock was, as much as the government has paid for”, Gucati said, accusing Government that it is not “turning its head” from the people found in The Hague.
Days ago it was reported that because of the payment issue, lawyers who are protecting those accused of Specialised Chambers and the Office of Specialised Prosecutor in The Hague can be removed.
But, the Justice Ministry came up with a reaction, saying that since the launch of the trial process at the Special Court in The Hague, regular payments have been realised, in line with pre-defined agreements and obligations.
“From the start of the total process has been paid 32.944,287.77. Of this amount, for the protection of Mr. Hashim Thaci has been completely spent: 5,353,301.02 $”, the MD said.
