Jake Larson, World War II veteran and social networking star known as “Pope Jake”, dead, announced his niece's accounts on social networks on Saturday. He was 102, writes CNN.
Our dear Jake's “pa Jake died on July 17th at the age of 102. Please know that he went away quietly and was even joking until the end of”, said niece McKela Larson in her posts.
As a member of the country's “Greatest Generiat”, Larson won a socially devoted escort as a centenarian, posting by the name @storytimethpaake in TikTok, where he gathered over 1 million followers with his stories of life and military service.
Christiane Ammanpour of CNN interviewed Larson in Normandy, France, in June 2024 on the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Sitting in a wheelchair just a few steps out of the coastline, he said he remembered the landing “as if it had happened yesterday”.
