A giant lightning that lit up large parts of the United States has been confirmed as the longest thunder ever recorded in the history of meteorology.
According to a recent announcement by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), lightning classified as a “megablic” It reached a staggering length of 829 miles [829 km], stretching from Texas to Kansas.
This remarkable weather phenomenon occurred in October 2017, but only now has it been officially confirmed after a deepening analysis of satellite and meteorological data.
New technology, which includes advanced sensors and space surveillance equipment, made possible precise measurements of the extent of lightning, reports space.
With this record height, the lightning of 2017 exceeded the previous record of 768 miles [768 km] of equal lightning that occurred in April 2020 and included the countries of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
The 61 - mile [ 61 km] gap between two records is considerable and underscores the increasingly extreme nature of weather phenomena.
