In an interview for Radio Gorazdevac, senior British diplomat stresses that Kosovo's crisis in the country is also affecting making important decisions.
This is a crisis, and not just politics. I believe this is a very serious moment for Kosovo. Kosovo urgently needs a properly formed government and parliament, capable of making important decisions regarding Kosovo's country in the world and funds currently in parliament, awaiting approval. These funds cannot be used at the moment, and Kosovo risks losing them”, said Jonathan Hargreets, English Ambassador to Kosovo.
Speaking of the Constitutional Court's role in resolving the political blockade, the ambassador expressed moderate optimism, but also stressed the fact that political will is needed.
“I think we are still in the phase of hope that the Constitutional Court will resolve this issue. But after all, this must be resolved politically by compromise among political parties. That's the root of the problem. The constitution and law may provide a framework, but it is up to the parties to agree on how to continue”, said Jonathan Hargrees, the English ambassador to Kosovo.
Regarding local elections scheduled for 12 October, Hargrees said they represent a chance for all communities, particularly the Serb one, to be politically active and to be represented again.
The “is an opportunity for all communities in Kosovo including non-communal communities, and especially the Serb community to express their will and be represented by parties that really want to protect citizens”, said Jonathan Hargrees, the English Ambassador to Kosovo.
The international factor is very sensitive to communities. Often, the European Union has taken a unilateral stance when talking about the Serb community in Kosovo. During the interview in front of Serbian journalist, it brings to the attention recent conflicts, but also allegedly discrimination against Serbs in the north. Ambassador Hargreaves stresses that the Serbian List is a legitimate part of Kosovo's political system, forgetting at the same time the blocking and illegal efforts this community has had in relation to local elections there.
