“German may thus significantly increase its protective capacity, as well as significantly increase its preventative capacity, but also that of Europe”, Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said after a meeting with his colleague Pete Hegseth in Washington, writes foreign media, wiretale.
A decision on procurement of weapons has not been taken yet, but Pistorius has officially expressed his interest.
However, he failed to reach a final agreement with Hegseth on sending further Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine, which will be financed by Germany in the amount of about two billion euros.
The SPD politician stressed that the latest technical, logistical and financial details still have to be clarified, but that those “appear to be selective for both of us to”.
It was his first visit to Washington since US President Donald Trump and his Defence Secretary, Hegseth, took office in January.
After his meeting at the Pentagon, Pistorius reported as today's <x0 warnings” that Germany had begun the process of securing Typhoon's medium-range action weapon, which could be used to shoot long-range missiles like Tomahawk.
Bundeswehr still does not have such weapons with a range of 2,000 kilometers.
The relevant European systems are still under way, and according to Pistorius, they will not be available for at least seven to ten years. /Periscope/
