The German Embassy in Kosovo has reacted to the recent letter of Petar Petkovic, in which he calls on the European Union, member states and other parties to stop what he calls Pristina's “escalating action”, namely the construction of two additional bridges over the Iber River in Mitrovica.
In a statement to the media, the German Embassy stresses that the Government of Kosovo must give up escalating actions, but emphasises that calls for de-pass should be equal for all sides.
“Just as we have repeatedly stated, we urge the Government of Kosovo to give up escalating actions. However, calls for de-pass must be applied equally to all sides” said in the statement.
However, the embassy criticises the failure of Bajska's perpetrators of the attack and cites the case of the leader of the attack, former Serbian List Vice President Radojic, who according to her freely moves on Serbian territory despite accepting responsibility.
“Of course it is not the Government of Kosovo that is failing to implement legal measures against those responsible for the horrific attack on Banjska. The fact that the self-declared leader of that attack, Mr. Radoic, publicly acknowledged responsibility and yet continues to move freely on Serbian territory, deeply undermines efforts to promote confidence and accountability in the region”, the German Embassy's statement said.
The embassy quotes a German proverb as stressing the importance of regulating domestic affairs before others are criticized.
In German, we say, "Erstmal vor der Eigen Haustür kehren first clean up at your door." This proverb reminds us that you must fix your house before constantly reprimanding Kosovo for its” decisions, it says further in the statement.
In the end, the Embassy notes that failure to act on perpetrators is as harmful as the actions uncoordinated by Pristina. /Periscopi/
