Germany approves faster procurement for military

Bill approved: The cabinet plans to speed up the purchase of protective materials. The German government decided that the German army in the future would have the opportunity to provide much faster protective materials. The federal cabinet adopted a bill for that purpose. “We want to accelerate the procurement to make Germany safer”, Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said. He spoke of a “revolutionary” and a <x4hop quantum”.

The bill extends an earlier 2022 law. The procurement had accelerated since the beginning of Russia's war against Ukraine. Given NATO's new goals and plans to significantly expand the German military, infrastructure must also expand. The demand to offer bids for arms contracts and environmental regulations, for example in building barracks, will be simplified

Production in Germany to Relax

The biggest contracts should no longer be divided into smaller tenders. Requests after contracting will have no suspension effect. Moreover, priority would be given to the production of weapons, ammunition and military equipment within Germany's territory, as this is considered “of essential interest in security”.

We need more protective equipment, and we need it faster. This is possible only by expanding production”, Economy Minister Catherine Reache said. Under the proposed law, the procurement would cover “all military goods without exception”, according to Reaches.

New weapon for federal police

Federal police will also be better equipped. The cabinet has decided on the widespread use of so-called Taser weapons. Initially, 10,000 of these devices will be purchased. Fivem euros have already been earmarked for this goal this year.

A Taser weapon is a device that releases electrical shocks at a certain distance, causing painful muscle contractions. This often impermesizes the affected person.
