(10 months ago)Germany's embassy in Kosovo has said on Tuesday it is deeply concerned by efforts to politicise the commitment of the search-saving teams of the Kosovo Security Force (FSK) on Lake Weyman, to find the body of a 33-year-old man allegedly jumping off the lake bridge two days ago. [...]
Weiman is located in Zubin Potok, one of four municipalities in northern Kosovo, inhabited by Serb majority.
A few hours after the KSF's engagement, the lifeless body was found. Parasely, KSF operation has received green light from mission NATO in Kosovo, KFOR, with the reasoning it has to do with humanitarian purposes, reports REL, broadcast Periscope.
The tragic loss of a young man's life should be the moment of collective grief and not the chance to gain political points”, the German Embassy has said.
According to her, statements by political actors that this KSF mission is “first north of Kosovo”, only misinterpret the purpose of engagement.
The same disturbing “are the accusations of actual photography manipulation, the removal of visible elements of KFOR association to promote deceptive narratives. Such actions risk undermining public confidence and turning attention away from the humanitarian focus of mission”, it has been said in response.
The embassy has said it fully supports KFOR's mission and praises the efforts of this mission, as well as KSF, for search-for rescue.
“Professionisation of them and co-operation are good for the public and serve as a reminder of what can be achieved when institutions work together in the service of human dignity”.
Through a Facebook post, The KSF has said the operation has been conducted in co-ordination with the Kosovo Police, the NATO mission in Kosovo (KFOR) and the Agency for Emergency Management.
“Sorup has been handed over to authorities for further investigation procedures”, said among other things on Facebook.
The operation has been carried out by command of KSF Commander Lieutenant General Union Jashari.
The KSF's debut in the country's north is possible only with the preliminary consent of NATO's peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, based on its 2013 pledge by the Kosovo government towards NATO. This commitment, given through a letter by former Prime Minister Hashim Thaci to then NATO Secretary Anders Fogh Rasmussen, remains in force today, despite changes to the KSF's mandate.
After this case, Kosovo Police have called on citizens not to jump off the bridge in Weyman.
Otherwise, the KSF is in the process of transforming it into the military, following the legal changes approved. This process is expected to be completed in 2028. /Periscope/
