About 12:30, in Golem, a hotel room, W. D, 82 (former German ambassador).
From preliminary examination, no signs of violence have been recorded. Death is suspected of natural causes.
The investigative group is on the scene and is continuing to clear up the circumstances of the case”, police report said.
A few days ago, Daum took part in the inauguration of the September testimony of democracy, Joseph Boudo in Cavaja.
I was here for three years, since 1987, when I opened the embassy until July 1990, when my embassy collapsed in a physical sense. But not only the embassy building went towards collapse, but also the relationship I tried to build with the Albanian people, with society, with intellectuals, everything seemed to be lost. But what happened was the birth of something new and beautiful. It was the birth of freedom. I would not say it was immediately democracy in Albania, but it was definitely the birth of freedom. I had a little hand in this, but I wasn't the one who made the difference. Those who brought about the change were Albanians, the Albanian people, and especially the young. But I think even a large number of intellectuals were important forces that pushed ahead the change, as well as those who directly participated in the revolution. I want to mention my old friend, Ismail Kadare, in particular. Kadare is not only our spiritual brother and one of the greatest writers of the 20th century, but he also had the soul of freedom.
And even a man like Ismail Kadare, known worldwide, as he told me later, after the revolution, he too faced regime investigations every time he met me. A regime that suspects even its largest intellectuals is destined to fall down, and I am proud to have a hand, however small, in the process. I love Albania, I love this country, its wonderful nature, the mountains, the sea, especially the historical sites, the Byzantine churches, cities like Berat, Korca, Shkodra, Vlora, and I have to say that I loved Albanians”, Daum said at the inauguration ceremony.
During 1987-1990, Wed has served as Germany's ambassador to Tirana and is known for his special role, opening the doors of the German Embassy for Albanians against his government's orders, in the belief that it would help bring down the communist regime. /Periscope/
