The medical complex “Nassser” was forced to stop the patients' admission Thursday, when witnesses said Israeli troops and tanks advanced to a cemetery 200m away and shot at nearby camps for displaced families. Forces reportedly withdrew Friday after digging several areas, reports BBC, broadcast Periscope.
Medical staff and dozens of patients in intensive care remain within the hospital, where the lack of fuel threatens to close services.
There was no immediate comment from the Israelite army.
However, on Friday morning, an armoured brigade was said to be operating in Khan Yunis to dismantle <x0 use of terrorist infrastructure locations” and seize weapons. He has issued evacuation orders for areas around the hospital.
A witness told the BBC that Israeli tanks accompanied by excavers and bulldozers advanced from south cemetery near Nasser Hospital on Thursday.
Civilians standing near the hospital gates were reportedly injured by missing bullets.
Dr. Saber al-Asmar, an emergency doctor at Nasser Hospital, told the BBC Field Service programme on Friday that the medical staff had not received a call from the Israeli army to announce in advance the operation or to say whether to evacuate the facility. /Periscope
