German government spokesman said Israel's “security is of primary importance to the German government”, adding that no concrete step is currently planned for recognition of Palestine as an independent state, reports mysophytrael.
This statement comes at a significant diplomatic moment, a day after France announced it would recognise the Palestinian state in September ʹ the decision that has triggered sharp reactions on the part of Israel.
Meanwhile, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Taani, during a meeting of his party “Forza Italy” in Rome stressed that any recognition of the Palestinian state should be accompanied by Israel's recognition of this new entity.
“A Palestinian state that does not recognise Israel means that the problem will not be solved,” said, underlining that without mutual recognition, peace in the region remains impossible.
European countries' diplomatic movements on the Palestinian issue are intensifying as tensions in the Middle East continue to be high. /Periscopi/
