The governor suggests he has gone to 71 number of victims, while searching for dozens missing, from the torrential rains that began Friday, flooding vast areas in the centre of state.
US President Donald Trump announced that he has signed the Texas Natural Disaster Declaration to help the affected families.
“I just signed a Declaration of Natural Disasters for the Kerr District, Texas, to ensure that the First Courageous Interventions have the resources they need immediately. These families are experiencing an unimaginable tragedy with many lives lost and many others still extinct. The Trump administration continues to work closely with state and local leaders”, Trump announced.
According to President Trump, Secretary of National Security Kristi Noem, and Governor Greg Abbott, landed on the ground to see the worst situation, while the American coast guard, along with the First Interventions of State, have saved over 805 lives.
The Guadalupe River grew by 8m in just 45 minutes, causing major damage at the Kamp mystic summer camp in Kerr County, where about 750 girls were located. Booth windows were broken by water power, while personal items such as blankets and child toys were found covered in mud.
According to residents, this is the worst flooding in decades. Experts say such extreme events are becoming increasingly common due to climate change.
Authorities have not yet given a final number of missing people, while hopes of finding survivors are less and less. /Periscope/
