Citizens and policemen clashed on July 8th in Podgorica, during a protest against award giving “13 July” writer Becir Vukovic, who denies the Montenegrin nation and supports the deethnic movement.
Police forces used chemical tools and physically prevented demonstrators from entering the Gorica state villa, where the wait was held and the award was awarded.
After about three hours, the protest ended.
Director Danilo Marunovic, who headed the protesters, told those in attendance that they would not stop.
Our police brutalized us, as the worst criminals. This cannot be over tonight”, he said, reports REL, broadcast Periscope.
Police said that during the unauthorized rally, organised by an informal group of citizens named “STEGA”, its members were attacked and one of them injured.
Police warned they would identify and prosecute perpetrators of violence.
In some cases, several hundred citizens tried to break the police cord and reach the villa.
After the police twice used pepper spray, they threw eggs and stones towards them.
The crowd cheered “Fashists”, “Traditi”, “Masitus, fascist”, “We should say no to the fascists, whenever, anywhere” and sing the Montenegrin anthem.
Radio Free Europe journalists in Podgorica report that some protesters had respiratory problems because of the use of pepper spray, including the dean of the Montenegrin Faculty of Language and Literature, Aleksandar Radoman, who ended up in the hospital.
“13 prices July” is divided in honour of Montenegro's Statehood Day for creators of works representing Montenegro's values.
The anti-fascist uprising in Montenegro began on July 13, 1941.
For the protesters, it is unacceptable that the price of antifascism was given to Vukovici, a supporter of the ethnic movement that collaborated with fascists in World War II.
In his writings, Vukovic has praised Draza Mihailovic, the secular leader of World War II, saying he was the “leader of the third Serbian uprising”.
He has also supported the policies of Andrija Mandiqi's pro-Russian Democratic Front, stating that “these are the only truth in Montenegro's turbulent political sky”.
He has also denied the Montenegrin nation, claiming it was invented by the Communist International founded in Moscow in 1919.
Besides Vukovich, X-rayer Velo Stanisic won the award.
The awards were handed over to the chairman of Montenegro's Parliament, Andrija Ma persecuted.
Your actions, commitment and success are a symbol of what it should be 13 July 21”, Ma persecuted.
One of the three laureates, Milos Karadagliq classical guitarist of world fame, refused to accept the award.
The Charge of Police Batak
Montenegrin police hit the lowest point when they brutally attacked citizens in a peaceful protest against the shameful award of “13 July”, the opposition Democratic Party of Socialists said.
This dark time will pass, but it will be remembered who was the servant of Andrija Mandiki and the chief of Belgrade, and who defended Montenegro citizen and modern”, DPS said.
The Montenegrin Faculty of Language and Literature sent a letter to the ambassadors of the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom in Montenegro, expressing deep concern for “excessive use of force” by police during the protest.
The letter stresses that the dean of that faculty was injured during the protest. /Periscope/
