Indian police have arrested a man charged with running a false embassy from a residence rented near the capital, New Delhi, and have seized counterfeit diplomatic license plates.
The suspect was impersonated as ambassador and allegedly deceived people for money by promising employment abroad, said senior police officer Sushil Ghule of the State Special Force Uttar Pradesh in northern India.
According to police, Harshvardhan Yain, 47, claimed he had acted as adviser or ambassador for subjects such as “Seborga” or “Westartica”
Police found some manipulated photos showing Jain with world leaders, as well as fake seals of India's foreign ministry and nearly three dozen countries, Ghule said.
He said Jain was also suspected of illegal money laundering through illegal companies abroad. He is also facing charges of falsification, imitation of identity and possession of forged documents. /Periscope/
