The Commission said Wednesday that its main focus was on reaching a negotiated outcome with the United States to avoid the 30% US tariffs US President Donald Trump has said he will deploy the 27-nation bloc on 1 August.
European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic will speak to Lutnick on Wednesday afternoon, the Commission said, before Commission officials inform EU ambassadors of the current situation.
The commission said it would continue in parallel to possible countermass. He said he will merge the two potential tariff groups of 21 billion euros and 72 billion euros into a single list.
She added she would present this to EU members for approval. No countermass would go into effect until August 7th. So far, the EU has not decided on any counter-action, agreeing, but then suspending immediately, the first group in April. /Periscope/
