“We are concerned that institutions have not yet been formed, further delaying the necessary reforms that lead the European Union”, a European Commission spokesman has said.
According to the EU, one of the main priorities the new institutions should have in the agenda is to ensure that the Reform and Growth Mechanism's entry into force -- a key instrument that will enable financial and technical support for Kosovo.
“In addition, providing the Reform and Growth Mechanism's entry into force should be a priority for the government and the new Assembly”, the EU's response to the Online Front is further said.
The EU spokesman estimates that the lack of institutional commitment could translate into a real loss for Kosovo citizens.
Kosovo should not miss these important opportunities, in the interest of its citizens,” is further said in its response.
According to the EU, the benefit from this mechanism requires taking concrete steps by local authorities.
This requires the signing and ratification of relevant agreements on the part of Kosovo, which would enable the release of funds under this instrument as long as all other conditions are met, says the EU spokesman.
The European Union has made it clear that support for Kosovo is stable, but also conditional on concrete progress in implementing reforms and respecting the agreements reached.
