In a long letter published by detention, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj accuses SPAK of an unfair and politically motivated process. He denounced the flow of investigative information into the media before it was announced on its own, the lack of evidence for the charges against him and the involvement of relatives in investigations. Veliaj says a “implementation” is taken against him through a deepening, personal and family veto. He describes his stay in prison as injustice, but declares he will continue to fight for the right and for the city of Tirana.

Friends and lovers,
I hope you all are well, and as you prepare to go on vacation with your families, I beg you to give me a few minutes, in response to your numerous letters, after six months of advance prison in Durres.
Last week, five BKH agents arrived at IEVP Durres to communicate with me, even though I had authorised lawyers to take the file to Tirana. An hour before the media first arrive, which is systematically reported on the show with the prisoner 9216 clearly, neither I nor the lawyers, that we were unaware of the visit.
No surprise here! Special prosecutors make sure that everything flows to some special media before the victim knows it, in flagrant violation of the investigative secret, the presumption of innocence, the country's Constitution and fundamental human rights, whoever the man and his work is.
I took the time to read the case, which was broken-in at the detention request, add here the surveillance with the family, the 9216s, from the prison phone and the prison van, where after three days the marathon for the mêu mass had to calm my family for this cutting separation from them and the city I love and serve. These additions to the charges of <x0gitation and propaganda” in prison serve only to emphasize how weak the initial charge is, how vague my prosecutors should feel about their investigation. They've produced nothing more than an Innuendo gossip, anonymous letters, sheets of junk, slander, fiction of assumptions about a sheriff'saller, who I'm convinced won't even stand in court.
In the final of a personal, family and tribal veto, from 2004 to 2025, and a 2-year persecution (in the wake of victory by about 160 thousand votes for the third time in Tirana), with an anonymous letter of counterfeiting, in the name of a Nesti Angon that, even according to prosecutors, “does not exist”, the prosecution's conclusion was this:
No violations can be found in two years of minister and 10 years mayor: no draft, no decision in violation of the law. No violations of my intenserator, Theatre, Skenderbeg Square, New Pazar, Pyramid, Stadium, Astari, Bulletin, new neighbourhoods in the Nation and May 5th; nor of the “John Belushi” and a thousand different roads; nor of the school “Sami Frasher” or 50 new schools, not for 110 gardens and shelters; nor for hundreds of thousands of trees planted and 91 angles; nor for free subscriptions to pensioners and students, nor for procedures launched for free lunch for Tirana students all on the SPAK investigation site.
So, nothing that relates to my duties as elected chairman 3 times or super-probated issues like these above.
The good news is that I've passed 21-year-old vetoation for no politician in Albania. Add here and here absurd voyeurism, instigation and humiliation by agents, in the operating room, two weeks ago, to ensure that, in addition to the self-preservation outside, I pass the internal self-preservation of all the bodies from esophagus to the rectum accompanied by 30 guards of various police, prison, state, etc.
Even this, part of this intentional and humiliating innuendo, where the prey is first resolved and, if no criminal evidence is found in the victim's work, is passed to self-referring from the trips of 25 years of age, without political function, to the 2025 Colosscope. And when nothing is found, they file files for their spouse, brother, mother, late father-in-law, cousins and the entire tribe of the community.
What drug boss did this to? To what serial killer have all the tribe and society involved? Which criminal has the entire family been persecuted?
Today, only my son has no record, but they have 12 years to prepare for adulthood. Today, however, everyone learned that I live in a 2+1 apartment on the fourth floor of a palace in a neighborhood where I live peacefully with many of my critics.
No villas, no resorts, no towers!
But while the prosecution has nothing to do with my work in the municipality and the ministry, some questions remain unanswered:
1. Who is Nestti Angon and how many politicians with anonymous letters has this 20-year veto become, as in my case? Is this investigation and persecution used on me as a “political elimination” to become a new standard for anyone targeted?
2. Why is it that all the good judges, who get lots for my size on the XKKO, suddenly get sick and quit? Is there a prosecutor-trial co-ordination for organising this attack on the elected mayor?
3. Why was media denigration never investigated through the extraction of all investigative secrets at the portals near the SPAK, where the documentary forms of prosecutors were clearly identified, rather than given to lawyers? This serious violation of the law cannot happen without knowledge and approval of the SPAK.
4. Is there a conflict of interest when one of the prosecutors has openly expressed a disappointment over a construction permit he received from the municipality? In a democratic society, shouldn't each defendant have the right to a prosecutor without conflict of interest?
5. Why am I barred from meetings with my international lawyers who are preparing my case for the European Court of Human Rights, even though the European Convention where Albania is a party clearly guarantees the fundamental right to protection and freely choose legal representation?
6. Was 1-year-old violence, with Molotovs and fires, ever reported before Tirana City Hall, committed by masked individuals who, according to reports, were transported by other circles? Who coordinated the violence to match my illegal veto? Who financed it for 45 weeks?
7. If the investigation is over, why am I still being held in custody away from my family and the city I serve? Would it make sense for me to escape the current mayor of Tirana when I have such close family, political and social ties in Tirana and have returned to Albania from abroad, knowing that I have been the subject of this criminal investigation? Does it really make sense that, as Chairman Basescu in the third term, I would commit serious criminal acts, being on parole, and knowing that I am under unprecedented observation and control? I've had a clean past until this persecution, and I currently enjoy the overwhelming trust and support of most of Tirana's citizens, then, isn't it just strange to think that I would perform other criminal acts? In fact, when I had the opportunity to serve the citizens of Tirana, the city was radically transformed.
I hope that the SPAK press office gives serious answers to all 7 of these questions; I claim the same seriousness at least, with which it runs all my files in the media for two years now. If the SPAK cannot answer these 7 questions in a reliable and legitimate way, I will not only refuse the unconventional charges, but I will continue to fight for what is right, and I will not allow these serious abuses of power to continue without denouncing them, along with the damage they have done to the citizens of Tirana and Albania.
The public's vast power of the prosecution, acting co-ordinated with other actors, has been displaced violently and irrationally and disproportionately to the power derived from the people, with the sovereign vote for the mayor, in brutal violation of the Constitution and local autonomy.
This power without control, which has operated for more than two years in a co-ordinated media-political campaign to finally massacre the current mayor of the public, is in stark opposition to the principles of democracy and rule of law. Now imagine how daily people with no support, no opportunity, without sound, are being punched into this super power without control. If such abusive behavior is not denounced and reformed, can Albania ever achieve its real potential? Will it ever be accepted into the European Union without real legal guarantees? Will investors and tourists continue to come to Albania in a country where they can submit to such illegal standards?
For all the zealots at disco-news, who talk with a self-confidence that makes you think that you sleep in bed with me in your cell, my lawyers in slander courts, where we've already won 100% of our trials from Ahmadinejad's son down to tired journalist's damidge.
As long as I have a camera 24/7 on the door and the other on the window, just be quiet that I'm more obsessed here than I was in Tirana, with all the excavations on every aspect of my life. They're ruthless for other people's lives, never for theirs.
And to those who grieve that I have shed tears for the boy, I tell them that they should be more disturbed by men who do not cry than by those who still have their heart in the country are systematically flogged by the child's homes. Making 50 schools for Tirana children and not accompanying your son to first grade is a bit of pain.
But I'm not alone! I've known dozens of cases of injustice in prison. Throughout the country thousands are held in custody, without punishment, the highest percentage in Europe. There are thousands of families suffering the emotional and economic burden in the face of a man/son/father pre-prisoning for a very long time without punishment; families that become poor every day from “the detention meeting” to keep on food and clothing “the man of the house”, which until yesterday provided for the family.
So I will also be the voice of thousands of families who suffer unjustly from this criminal tyranny.
In the end, for opponents I couldn't vote on, and they rejoice in this short-term lynching of hysteria, I remind you that every decade I've started my life from the first: 10 I left alone and resumed from immigration and the figs of the Bazaar; in my 20s I left America, I created the largest MJAFT, the largest organization; in my 30s, I represented Gjirokastra and reformed the ministry that reached work, pensions, persecutions and the impossible; in my 40s, I established the European Capital of Youth and Culture.
So, 10, that 20, that's 30, that 40, I'm not going to break down on the cause of my belief and hold on to it. And this of social justice, and not of special tyranny to the weak, will increasingly engage me. I will continue to fight for Tirana, the city I love so much, and for Albania, the country I love with all my heart!
Thanks for reading me.
Have a nice vacation.
Embrace your family and children, for you never know when they violently separate you from them, as you did me!
I love you so much,
EV
