Kosovo is continuing to deepen its dependence on imported goods, bringing the trade deficit to a higher level. In the first half of 2025 Kosovo has raised the value of importing goods nearly half a billion euros, compared to the same period in 2024. This negative trade trend goes deeper than the same period in 2023. On the other side, the export trend has marked a decline, the KP reports.
Kosovo is continuing to deepen its dependence on imported goods, bringing the trade deficit to a higher level. In the first half of 2025 Kosovo has raised the value of importing goods nearly half a billion euros, compared to the same period in 2024. This negative trade trend goes deeper than the same period in 2023. On the other side, the export trend has seen a decline.
According to official data from the Kosovo Statistics Agency, in the first six months of this year, Kosovo has imported goods worth 3 billion and 349m euros, or 469m euros more than in the same period last year as there were 2 billion and 880m euros in January, June 2024. Also in the January-June 2023 period, Kosovo has imported goods of 2 billion and 687m euros, or 662m euros less than the same period in 2025.
Kosovo for the six-month period of 2025 has a trade deficit of 2 billion and 915 million, until the current period of 2024 the deficit was 2 billion and 439m euros. The commercial deficit in this period of 2023 has been 2 billion euros and 262m euros.
In this period, however, our country has seen a decline in export value.
During January-June month of this year, Kosovo has exported only 434m euros of goods or 7m euros less than in the same period last year that there were 441m euros in January, June 2024. In contrast, exports have been 425m euros during the January-June 2023 period.
In 2024, Kosovo marked a historical record for importing goods value.
Over the past year, Kosovo has exported goods worth only 889m euros, while for the first time it has imported 6.38 billion euros within a year.
In 2023 the value of exports was 819m euros, import as well as 5 billion 878m euros.
In 2022 exports were 920m euros, imports 5 billion and 639m euros, in 2021 stood at 755m exports, while imports of 4 billion and 684m euros.
In 2020, the value of exports was 474m euros, while 3 billion and 296m imports. /Periscopi/
