A multistory building has collapsed in southern Pakistan, causing a serious tragedy with at least 16 victims confirmed so far. Rescue teams have managed to extract 10 troops during an overnight operation, while the search for survival continues.
According to local authorities and media, the building was located in a narrow alley, preventing heavy vehicles and making it difficult for rescuers to do so. Views from the site show rescue teams carefully digging into ruins, while the family of the missing await with anxiety and prayer for any sign of life from their loved ones.
The area's Civil Hospital reportedly has accepted 16 troops and is treating several injured people, while emergency teams continue searching for at least eight people believed to be still in ruins.
The buildings in Pakistan are a recurring problem because of poor implementation of construction standards. Often, buildings are built with poor materials and in conflict with safety regulations to reduce construction costs. /Periscopi/
