An 8-year-old is included among those killed, reports The Guardian.
The military said 14 other people in Thailand were injured as a result of the fighting.
Thailand said that a F-16 fighter jet had hit Cambodia and destroyed a military target. The military said several other planes were ready to be deployed there.
“We have used air power against military targets as planned”, Thai Army deputy spokeswoman Richa Suksuwanon told reporters.
Prior to today's fighting outbreak, Cambodia said earlier Thursday that diplomatic relations with Thailand were at their lowest level, driving out Thai ambassador and withdrawing all Cambodian staff from its embassy in Bangkok.
This was in response to the closure of the northeast border crossings with Cambodia from Thailand, the withdrawal of its ambassador, and the expulsion of Cambodian ambassador Wednesday in protest against a land explosion that injured five Thai soldiers. /Periscopi/
