The incident comes amid growing concern over the Chinese impact on critical technologies and security infrastructure in Europe.
Up to 700 German Armed Forces soldiers were participating in the EU-led Red Sea operation to prepare for Houth's attacks on major trade routes, according to the German newspaper Der Spiegel, after Berlin had expanded its participation in the mission in January.
The newspaper said China was targeting a German intelligence plane, without specifying the model of the plane. The plane can be flew by civilian pilots and carried by soldiers and stationed in Gibuti.
Der Spiegel said that the incident occurred when the plane was approaching a Chinese frigate.
