The news is published by Corriere della Sera and is based on an ENAC document (the National Agency for Civil Aviation), also approved by the Italian Interior Ministry.
According to this new rule, the responsibility of identity control passes to the airline, which should ensure that the name on the ticket matches that of the traveler through visual control.
According to authorities, security remains guaranteed by standard controls at airports, such as passage through metalladector and luggage scanners.
However, identity documents are not to be left at home because they may be required in random checks or in return, since not all countries in the Schengen area follow this rule. Furthermore, documents remain necessary for trips outside the Schengen area.
In Italy alone, some 51 million passengers are expected to fly by the end of the year using only the finish card, and by 2026 some 92 million passengers are predicted.
