A joint operation between Britain's National Crime Agency (NCA), Border Forces and French authorities has led to the ban on a yacht on the shores of Isle of Wright, uncovering an attempt for illegal trafficking of immigrants towards the United Kingdom.
There were two Ukrainian citizens on board, Vladyslav Cherniavsky, 37, and Oleksandr Yavtushenko, 43, who have been arrested and charged with assistance in illegal immigration. They will appear today (July 22nd) at the Portland Magic Court.
Jaht, who was headed north of France, was spotted on the English Channel on Sunday (July 20th) and escorted to the Gosport Navy in Hampshire by a British Border Border Patrol, reports TopChannel, broadcast Periscope.
Five passengers were aboard, a female from Vietnam and four Albanians -- one of them Pellumb Selimi, 29, who was wanted for a lack of presentation in court on a drug case. Selimi has been arrested and will appear before the Supreme Court in St Albans.
High investigative official of NCA, Julian Harriman, said: “This operation is part of a continuing NCA-led investigation into co-operation with French authorities and National Gendarmeria. Border Force assistance has been essential. The fight against human trafficking groups remains a priority for both countries, France and Britain, and we will do everything to dismantle these criminal networks. ”
The detainees are still in custody, and investigations are under way. /Periscope/
