Greek authorities ordered forced layoffs in areas where temperatures are expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius.
From Sunday, parts of Greece were involved in a wave of extreme heat, expected to last until Thursday.
The Labour Ministry banned physical work abroad and the distribution of food from 12: 00 p.m. to 5: 00 p.m.
The order will be applied mainly in Greece's central regions and in several islands.
Employers were also asked to offer long - range work opportunities.
No emergency measures were taken in Athens, as the current heat wave in the capital is not considered unusual.
Meteorologists expect higher temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday, while predicting a slight decline -- at about 35 degrees -- by the end of the week.
The most extreme temperatures are expected to be marked in the lower areas of central Greece.
On islands and along the coast, temperatures are expected to be between three and five degrees lower than in the continental and urban centers.
One of the most important recommendations for citizens is avoiding out - of - doors during midday hot hours, excessive water consumption, avoiding alcohol, eating snacks, and avoiding outdoor sports activities.
To help the most vulnerable people, such as the homeless or those without air conditioning, many cities and municipalities have made air - conditioned facilities available where people can be accommodated.
High temperatures are taking over in other parts of Europe, including the Balkan region. / REL/
