Barbano: Government attacks in office on judiciary unacceptable

As stated in a Supreme Court media communiqué, Rexhepi has stressed the court's determination to run and the entire justice system, to continue the work, “despite attacks of tendencies by the Government in office to undermine the image of the judiciary and prevent its independent functioning”, adding that state “institutions are obliged to implement judicial decisions, as a condition for the functioning of the legal state<3>.
Meanwhile chief of EULEX, Giovanni Pietro Barbano, according to the communiqué, condemning the latest attacks, confirmed that they strongly backed the Supreme Court until “the government's in office attacks called it unacceptable”.
According to him, the “labelation and belonging of judges with names, putting them at risk by any possible attack, is non-tolerable and unacceptable”.
Rexhepi, for his part, praised the support of EULEX and the EU Office in Kosovo, suggesting that “this situation with the government shows two sides of the medal: the part that the judiciary is independent and the other side of the medal that the government has not reached to that degree of democracy, as long as it waits in peace for the decisions of the judiciary”.
The Supreme Chairman explained that “with the Judiciary Council are working for the judiciary to be independent and exercise its constitutional and legal functions”.
Chairman Rexhepi's “meeting with EULEX chief Pietro Barbano and his team took place since it was held against the Supreme Court in the last two days, there was a series of reactions from the government in office, as this court, through the P-trial.
