AUV confirms the first cases of illness “Ker” in Kosovo

In order to prevent the spread of the disease, The AUV has imposed general restrictive measures of moving animals across the territory of Kosovo.
“In the village of Marec municipality Pristina and a farm in the village of Bruce Lipjan municipality. In order to prevent the spread of disease on other farms -- the Food and Veterinary Agency from today -- has imposed general restrictive measures of moving animals within Kosovo's territory. At the same time, all farmers are ordered in collaboration with private vets to use the dezincation measures on farms and around them. With the aim of eliminating mosquitoes as the main vector of the spread of the disease. And avoid contact with other animals and herds. All law enforcement authorities are obliged to assist in monitoring the implementation of strict restrictions on cattle movement across the country's territory”It says on notice.
According to AUV, the <x0juha of Kalter” is a non-infected virusal disease transmitted through bites of mosquito type Culicoides. This disease affects cattle, sheep, and goats while sheep are the most sensitive. The disease is not transmitted to humans and does not shift from animal to animal.
Based on Law No. 2004/21 to Veterina, AUV has made a decision. 01574/2025 for general measures for controlling, preventing and combating this disease, which take effect today on 29.07.2025.
General measures:
A) No animal movement from farms, trade in markets, and commerce;
b) Farms where the presence of the disease is confirmed, receive infected status and place in mass complete isolation/carantines. No exit movement allowed.
c) Farmers are subjected to any changes in animal health immediately to report veterinarians. Veterinary practices are obliged to apply veterinary health protocols to prevent and combat this disease
d) Farmers activate biosecurity measures on their farms. Using suprarant/insecticides to eliminate mosquitoes (preparath type used by veterinarian recommendation)
to determine locations for dead animal exhumation;
f) AUV continues with epidemiological research, taking samples and conducting laboratory tests;
2 / 1 Except for the point I make of this decision, animal movement is allowed from farms free from this disease to licensed slaughter, with initial consent from the veterinarian inspector of the Food and Veterinary Agency.
3 / 1 All market managers are ordered from the moment this decision comes into force to suspend work.
6 / 1 Obligations, Kosovo Police, Communists in co-ordination and co-operation with AUV to make oversight of the implementation of the measures.
V. The measures went into effect today as date 29.07.2025
