Following the quick and professional actions of managing the first case of its presence in the village of Landovica Prizren. Respecting measures from farmers and the well working of authorities is under control.
AUV is operating on the field with all capacity to prevent spread disease. All operations are timely and professional. So it was required that good work continue according to dynamics and professional veterinary protocols.
The key to success in managing the situation is the exact implementation of measures by farmers themselves in the first place. So far from the first case, no other case of the disease presence in countries has been recorded. Private veterinarians are doing professional work and responsibility. Local authorities are helping maintain that well-informed farmers. With this approach we aim to preserve the flocks of sheep and goats, the farmers' economy and the state economy itself.
Apply measures imposed by AUV.
I. General measures:
A) Banning the movement of sheep and goats from farms, trading in markets and commerce;
B) Farmers were forced immediately to report veterinarians in case of changing the health of sheep and goats on their farms,
c) Veterinary practices are binding to report each case suspected with PRPR to official authority AUV,
d) Performing immediate inspections of suspected farms, taking samples and sending to the Food and Veterinary Laboratory;
e) Animal exhumation on farms which result in PPR infection;
f) Communists are obliged to determine locations for the annihilation of infected animals
g) Disinfecting objects and surrounding areas of farms and areas surrounding cases of outbreak of disease;
2 / 1 Except for the point I of this decision, the movement of sheep and goats is allowed by farms free of this disease in licensed slaughter, with the consent of the veterinarian inspector of the Food and Veterinary Agency.
3 / 1 All market managers are ordered from the moment this decision comes into force to suspend the acceptance of sheep and goats in their spaces.
6 / 1 All municipalities, Kosovo Police, in co-ordination and co-operation with AUV are committed to making oversight of the implementation of the measures.
V. The measures went into effect today date 03.07.2025
What Is PPR Disease
Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), known as the Great Ruminant Murta, is a highly contagious viral disease that affects sheep and goats. It is characterized by severe symptoms such as high fever, nose leaks, diarrhea, pneumonia, and severe coughing.
PPR causes significant damage to animal health, increases mortality rates, and has direct impact on the livestock economy.
This disease is not zoonotic, which means it's not a threat to human health and it's not transmitted from animal to human.
