Must be the right place to take refuge in the scorching heat. But Pristina's Germ pool is barely half full, the American medium writes Associated Press.
Last year, between 4,000 and 5,000 people visited her every day during the peak season.
But today, water slides and hers are empty.
The pool needs 20,000 cubic metres of water.
And as Europe suffers from a hot hot wave, this volume is difficult to obtain, especially since the object is based on the surrounding mountains for its supply.
“We have probably the strongest heat wave currently affecting our country and also the region, and unfortunately we haven't been able to open the largest public pool in the country.
Normally we fill it with water from the mountains in just six days, but due to the lack of rainfall and drought, the process is already taking more than three weeks”, explains Bardh Krasniqi, executive director of Sport Marketing, who manages the pool.
The heat wave and the prolonged lack of rainfall are making life difficult throughout Kosovo, writes the Associated Press.
The temperatures have reached 35 degrees Celsius this week, and the Institute of Health has urged people to stay away from direct exposure to the sun.
The institute has warned elderly, children and those with health problems to stay at home.
In downtown Pristina, a temporary resort offers little shade to health workers to talk to locals.
The heat wave that has begun to reign here and in the region can negatively affect the welfare and health of citizens. In the city, as a primary medical service, we have begun offering health services to citizens, such as measuring blood pressure, living parameters and offering medical advice on how to protect ourselves from heat and high temperatures”, says Arieta Pula, a specialist in family medicine.
All countries in the Western Balkan region have been affected by heat.
In Albania rivers are almost dry, due to a lack of rainfall during winter and spring./Periscopi/
