The United States has banned the sending of several air defence missiles and other ammunition to Ukraine due to concerns that US reserves are very low, reports the Associated Press.
Several ammunition was earlier promised to Ukraine under the Biden administration to help protect it during the war of more than three years. The suspension reflects a new set of priorities under President Donald Trump and came after Defence Department officials reviewed the current US reserves and raised concerns.
“This decision was made to put America's interests first after a review of our country's support and military assistance to other countries throughout the globe,” said White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly, in a statement. “The United States Armed Forces Force Force remains unequivocal. Just ask Iran”, she added.
It was a reference to Trump's recent order for US missile attacks on nuclear sites in Iran.
The ban on several US weapons is a blow to Ukraine, as Russia has recently launched some of its major war strikes, in a growing bombing campaign that has further dampened hopes for some progress in Trump-backed peace efforts. Talks between the parties have stalled. /Periscopi/
