Alarm: Over 320 fires reported in Kosovo alone last week

Kosovo is facing an alarming situation because of fires that have engulfed the entire territory. During the past week alone, over 320 fire cases have been reported, while two victims have been identified as a Gjakova fireman and a citizen of the Kline municipality. The news became known at a [...] conference.
The news was disclosed at a joint media conference of the Kosovo Emergency Management Agency and Police.
Emergency Management Agency Executive Director Genc Metaj said the fires are widespread throughout the country and warned of serious risks unless measures are taken and civic awareness increases.
The country is facing a difficult situation, where fires have emerged throughout the country. During the last week alone, over 320 fire cases have been reported - mountain fires, lowlands, and even objects. It's worth talking about all these cases we've successfully interviewed. We currently have seven active fires and it's working out for these to disappear. This large number and possible consequences of such fires are alarming. As a result of this situation, unfortunately, we lost a fireman from the Gjakova professional fire unit and also lost his life as a citizen of the municipality of Kline. We got two more firemen down. The challenge remains awareness of citizens”, Metaj said.
The Kosovo Police's commitment to preventing the fires spoke to director-general Gazmend Hoxha, who stressed that a series of activities have been undertaken to manage the situation and prosecute firefighters.
Even the police are working to make a difference in reducing fires and risks. Police have taken a series of activities to prevent and spread fires. We through physical assistance are also dealing with investigation and prosecution of criminal acts. The total number of fires reported from the beginning so far is 183, the number of fires is 54, the number of arrested persons is 9, the number of cases initiated in police is 65”, Hoxha said.
