L.A. Mayor Karen Bass has announced a <x0 police subset of” for a part of the second largest city of the United States, amid protests against President Donald Trump's austerity measures. According to foreign media, Telegrafi notes, the measure is worth a square mile (2.6 sq km) of [...]
According to foreign media, Telegrafi notes, the measure is worth a square mile (2.6 sq km) of the city centre and will be in force from Tuesday's 8:00 p.m. to Wednesday's 6:00m (in local time), Bass said on Tuesday.
Many businesses have been affected or vandalised. Last night, 23 businesses were robbed and I think that if you drive through downtown Los Angeles, the graphs are everywhere and have caused significant damage to businesses and a number of properties”, Bass said at a press conference.
So my message to you is: If you do not live or work in downtown Los Angeles, avoid the area. Law enforcement will arrest individuals who violate curfew and you will prosecute”.
Bass said he expected the <x0-second police centre to remain in force for several days, but stressed that the order applied only to a small part of the city, which covers 502 square miles (1,300 sq km).
“... Some of the images of protests and violence give the impression that this is a crisis throughout the city, and it's not”.
Bass's order came as protests against the Trump administration raids on suspected immigrants without documents broke into the fifth night in Los Angeles, and as demonstrations spread to dozens of other US cities, including New York, Chicago and Atlanta.
Trump's measures against immigration and the deployment of the National Guard and the Navy against protesters have been sentenced by California officials, who have accused the president of abuse of his authority and inciting tensions.
In a speech to the Californian on Tuesday evening, California Governor Gavin Newsom sharply criticised the use of military force by Trump as a “shamed power”. /Periscope/
