On the day of the 1,212 conflict in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has given new signals for an opportunity of negotiations, but under clear conditions.
During a meeting with the directors of leading international news agencies, the Kremlin chief said he did not consider NATO's re-armed as a direct threat to Russia.
The spotlight also included his willingness to meet with Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky, but only in a final phase of the negotiations, with the aim of ending the war.
However, Putin raised a sensitive issue through a direct comment: “The question is who will sign the” agreement, he said, questioning the legitimacy of Zelensky, whose mandate ended in May 2024. Because of military law, presidential elections in Ukraine have not been held.
The Ukrainian side continues to increase tensions with Moscow beyond traditional borders.
According to Andriy Chernyak, representative of Ukraine's Ministry of Defence Intelligence Directorate, Russia is expanding its military presence in the Arctic -- a development considered strategic for controlling natural resources and new maritime approaches. /Periscopi/
