War between Israel and Iran enters second week: World calls for deespassion, US uncertain intervention

The war between Israel and Iran has officially entered in the second week, while senior European representatives are committed to bringing Tehran back to the negotiating table. This is true after US President Donald Trump's statement, who said the decision on American eventual involvement in the conflict would be made within two weeks [...]
The conflict began after an Israeli air strike on Iran last Friday, with the reasoning of stopping the Islamic Republic from developing nuclear weapons. Iran reacted with missile attacks and fears of Israeli territory, stressing that its nuclear programme is only for peaceful purposes, Reuters reports.
According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency, Israeli air strikes have caused the deaths of 639 people in Iran, including high military figures and nuclear scientists. On the other hand, Israeli authorities reported at least 20 victims of Iranian missile attacks.
Western and regional sources claim that Israel has hit Iranian nuclear sites and missile capacities, aimed simultaneously at destabilising the Supreme Leader's regime, ajatolah Ali Khamenei.
“We want the regime to fall? This may happen as a result, but it is up to the Iranian people to stand up for their freedom,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday.
Iran, on the other hand, has stressed that its attacks have targeted military and protective targets in Israel, although civilian objects, including a hospital, have been hit.
In the face of the danger of a regional escalation, the foreign ministers of Britain, France and Germany, together with the EU foreign policy chief, are expected to meet today in Geneva with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aracchi, to seek to halt the escalation of the conflict.
“It is time to stop heavy images from the Middle East and prevent regional escalation that does not serve anyone,” said British Foreign Minister David Lammy.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held separate meetings with Lami and his counterparts from Australia, France and Italy to discuss the crisis. The US State Department announced that an agreement was reached that “Iran should never develop or secure nuclear weapons”.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese Xi Yinging condemned Israel's actions and stressed the need for the deespass, the Kremlin announced on Thursday.
The role of the United States in this conflict remains unclear. /Periscope/
