Veliaj seeks release from prison, Appeal considers security measure Monday

Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, who has been in custody since February in the Durres Prison, will appear this Monday before the Special Appeals Court, where his request for a change in the security measure will be considered.

Through his lawyers, Veliaj seeks release from the cell and replacing the measure with a softer one, also offering property guarantees in support of the demand.

Earlier, he has even deposited a review of the Supreme Court on the same issue, but until now it has not been set the date of examination and trial bodies that he will handle.

Veliaj is in the SPAK investigation on issues related to abuse of office and corruption in the exercise of public office. The session at the Special Appeal is expected to be crucial for further progress in the process towards it. /euronews/ Periscopi/
