Invisible American B-2 bombers left the U.S. and seemed to be heading towards Diego Garcia, a strategic military base in the Indian Ocean on Saturday.
The fighter aircraft used the sign of the MayTEE21 call, which was formerly associated with secret bomber missions. Bombers were accompanied by eight supply planes, reports TopChannel, Transmitt Periscope.
B-2 Spirit is designed for long-range assault missions and is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons.
It's the only aircraft capable of transporting GBU-57 Massive Ordance Penetrator, also known as bunker bunker bomb. bunker bombs can be used in a possible attack on Fordow, the Iranian nuclear facility buried 90m inside a mountain.
It was not clear whether the bombers were heading towards Diego Garcias or an American military base in Guam.
The United States would need British permission to launch attacks by Diego Garcia, over which the United Kingdom preserves sovereignty. That wouldn't be necessary if they were deployed from the base in Guam.
On Thursday, President Trump said he would make a decision if he attacked Iran “within the next two weeks”.
In a message broadcast through Caroline Leavet, the White House press secretary, he said: “Based on the fact that there is a considerable chance for negotiations that can or may not be held with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not I will go within the next two weeks. ”
However, deploying B-2 bombers on Saturday shows that the American president may be prepared to launch an attack faster than expected. Trump said on Friday he thought Iran would be able to develop a nuclear weapon “within weeks, or of course within a few months”. He added: “We cannot allow this to happen”
Tolsi Gabbard, the director of US national intelligence, changed its position this week after Trump said her assessment of the nuclear situation was “wrong”. The chief of spying testified in Congress earlier that the American intelligence community “continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon, and the Supreme Leader Khamenei did not endorse the nuclear weapons programme he suspended in 2003”. On Friday, Gabbard said her testimony was extracted from the context. Israel and Iran exchanged further attacks at night, with the Israeli Army announcing a new wave of attacks against Iranian storage and launching missiles.
Israel Katz, Israeli Defence Minister, also said the army had killed Saeed Izadi, a veteran Iranian military commander, in an attack on an apartment in the Iranian city of Com. Katz called the assassination a <x0-powered breakthrough for Israeli intelligence and air force”, adding that Izadi had financed and armed Palestinian militant group Hamas before his attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
At least 430 people have been killed and 3,500 others have been injured in Iran since Israel launched its attacks on June 13th, according to the Iranian health ministry. In Israel, 24 civilians have been killed in Iranian missile attacks.
Military action began after Israel accused Iran of developing nuclear weapons. Iran claimed its atomic programme is for peaceful purposes. /Periscope
