Governors in several Russian regions have confirmed the fears, even though it is unclear if a plane has been hit.
Ukraine's Security Service, the main intelligence agency, published a video on June 1st, which said it showed fears by hitting Russian strategic bombers on several grounds. These bombers have played a key role in Russia's war, launching long-range floating missiles to Ukrainian targets, Periscope.
An air base in Murmansk and one in the Riazan region has reportedly been hit, but Irkutsk's Belaja air base, which is over 5,200 miles [5,200 km] east of the Ukrainian border, is also reported.
Irkutsk Governor Igor Kobzeva said this is the first time Russian fears have been observed in this region.
In statements to Radio Free Europe, unidentified officials of Ukraine's security agency, known as SBU, claimed that as many as 40 bombers were hit. The SBU video appears to show drones blowing up and hitting Tupolev bombers stationed on the runway, while another video shows smoke coming out of some bases.
Ukrainian claims have failed to be independently confirmed, but several channels in the Telegram, which are linked to the Russian Army, have reported that four air bases have been hit.
The Ukrainian attack comes at a time when the parties are expected to hold the second round of direct talks in Istanbul on 2 June, as they try to reach a peace agreement for the war that began on 2022. /REL/
