A House of Representatives lawmaker is nominating President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize after he brokered a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran.
Representative Buddy Carter, wrote to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, stating Trump had an extraordinary and historical “, in the conclusion of the “armed conflict between Israel and Iran and in preventing greater state sponsorship of terrorism in the world from taking the deadliest weapon on planet”.
The two countries later exchanged missile fires over the next few days, and over the weekend, the US launched their air strikes on three of Iran's top nuclear facilities.
Iran responded by rocketing an American air base in Qatar on Monday, but not without pre-advancing American and Catarian officials. They were not reportedly injured in that attack.
“The influence of President Trump was essential in reaching a quick agreement that many considered impossible. President Trump also took bold and decisive action to stop Iran's nuclear ambitions, and to ensure that the world's largest sponsor state of terrorism remains unable to secure a” nuclear weapon, Carter wrote in his letter.
He said Trump's leadership during the crisis “illustrates the very ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize seeks to recognise: pursuing peace, preventing war and advancing international harmony. In a region plagued by historical animosity and political instability, such progress requires both courage and clarity”.
President Trump demonstrated both, offering the world a rare spark of hope. For these reasons, I respectfully submit this nomination to Donald J. Trump, 47th president of the United States, to be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize”, Carter concluded.
It is not the first time Trump has been nominated for the prize, even though he has not yet won it.
Representative Darrell Issa, republican from California, proposed Trump for the price a little earlier this year, arguing that his 2024 election victory had a “amazingly effective effect” on world peace.
According to the Nobel Prize website, 338 candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 have so far been nominated.
Carter, who is running for the Senate in Georgia, has presented several important bills this year supporting Trump, though many of them have been seen largely as symbolic. /Periscopi
