Trial of 53 charged in Meja massacre begins

The Special Prosecutor of the Republic of Kosovo (PSRK) on December 23rd 2024 has filed an indictment in absentia against 53 accused of the Meja massacre. All the defendants are so far on the run.
Charged in this case are: Momir Stojanovic, Sreten Chamovovic, Nikola Mitunovic, Milovan Kovacevic, Sergey Perovovic, Veroljub Zivkovic, Milan Kotur, Radomir Colovic, Dragutin Josifovic, Franco Simatovic, Momcilo Stanojovic, Vlako Vukovovic, Iliko Todovrov, Sterovac, Dragan Zivovac, Milosan Sikov, Danilo Zeljkov, Dimitriko, Vesevo, Vesacovac, Valacovac Vukkovo Vukkov, Valkov, Valkov, Valackov, Valakkov, Valackov, Valakkov, Valackov, Valackov, Valka, Valkokov, Valko, Valovic, Valovic, Valovic, Valovico Valovic, Vesavovico, Vesavovic, Vesacovic, Vesavovic, Vesavovic, Vesavovic, Vesavovic.
According to the indictment, the accused in 1998-1999, during wartime, in the villages of the Gjakova municipality, acting in co-ordination as part of the Joint Criminal Company, defendants: Momir Stojanovic- as head of the Command Security Department in Pristina Corps, Sreten Camovovic- Chief of State Security Department (UDB), Nikola Mitunovic-Comant of the Reserve Units, Milovan Kovacevic- Chief of the Secretary of Internal Affairs in Gjakova, Sergey Perovic-Secur of Security at 52 Artileria and Air Defense Brigades at the Gjakova Garniston, Pristina Corps- Armatta III, Verolub Zivkovic-Pristina Postcomander Commander Frontier and Chief of Staff of the Pristina Corps Milan Cottur-Cervic of the Pristina Corps, Radomir Coliq-Unitary Commander “Possé Jednice police station” Police in Gjakova, Dragin Josifoqu-Copionary Station of Police Station in the village of Ponosova <X4>

The aforementioned are charged with seriously violating the rules of international law, committing murder, torture, inhuman treatment, intimidation, destruction of wealth, mass deportation and cleansing of the Albanian national population.
The 53 accused are charged that in co-ordination they committed criminal acts “the crime of fighting against the civilian population”, sanctioned by Article 142 concerning Article 22 of the Criminal Law of Yugoslavia's Socialist Federation Republic, currently incriminating as “Crime vs. humanity”, sanctioned with Article 1431 points 1.1; 1.2 1.4; 1.6; 1,8;1.par. 1.4; 1.6; and 1.7; regarding Article 31 of Code No. 06/L-074 Penal of the Republic of Kosovo (far below “KPRK”
