US Supreme Court limits federal judges' power to block Trump orders and policies

The US Supreme Court ruled on Friday that individual judges do not have the authority to issue judicial orders throughout the country, but the decision made it unclear the fate of President Donald Trump's restrictions on obtaining US citizenship of children born there, but whose parents stay illegally. The result was a victory for the republican president, who has complained about individual judges who raise obstacles to his agenda.
The judges agreed with the Trump administration, as well as with the former administration of Joe Biden before it, that judges are overstepping orders that apply to all, rather than only the parties before the court.
After the decision, Trump told reporters that he will immediately work to advance policies blocked by judges, including restrictions on obtaining citizenship on the basis of birth.
He welcomed the decision, calling it “a great and amazing decision” and a monumentd “profitary for the constitution, division of powers and rule of law”.
Despite the ruling, a conservative- majority Supreme Court left open the possibility that citizenship restrictions on birth may remain blocked throughout the country.
Trump's order will deny citizenship to US-born children of people who are illegally in the country.
The cases now return to first-instance courts, where judges will have to decide how to adapt their orders to abide by the Supreme Court ruling, Euronews writes. /Periscope/
